Ashton’s Story

A story we heard thousands of times, a story that is preventable, yet continues to happen.

We were contacted by a family who bought a dog from Craigslist five years ago. When Ashton arrived in the family, they had no children.

As years went by, the family grew, and they now have a one-year-old and a two-year-old.

Sadly, Ashton was never prepared for the arrival of the children, and he was never properly introduced.

Ashton began acting out, as he didn’t know what to do with these two new little humans, and how to react.

Then, the family began keeping him separated, and Ashton then grew to resent the children, which is understandable.

This story is one that we keep on seeing and hearing, and it is the reality of thousands, if not millions, of abandoned dogs each year.

Thankfully, Ashton was brought to us, and not to a kill shelter, or worse, as has happened many times.

We cannot stress this enough, but if you are pregnant or plan on having kids, train your dog, hire a trainer and animal behaviorist, and prepare your dog for the arrival of the new baby. Desensitize the dog to the new room, objects, and the list goes on. There are so many things that can be done BEFORE to prevent having to abandon your dog for failing to properly train him.
